Elliptical Pelham

Elliptical Pelham

The Elliptical Pelham is a 45 mm lozenge, it is stronger than the Control Plate due to it having a smaller slotspie surface area. Consequently, a horse using his tongue as a means of pushing against the bit and therefore taking control, will draw back and tuck his chin in, coming back to a better point of control.

The Pelham has attachments for two reins, one near the mouthpiece and one at the end of the shank. These reins have similar action to the curb and bridoon reins in the double bridle.

Some riders, not adept at handling two sets of reins, prefer to use rein connectors, leather loops which connect from one ring to the other on the bit shank. The rein is then attached to this Pelham rounding. This ensures that the rider is able to ride with just one set of reins.

Additionally, the Pelham has the shortest shank (55 mm) out of our range, this will soften poll pressure and leverage on the mouthpiece and curb.

Curb chain and hooks supplied.
