Full Cheek / Fulmer

The Full Cheek or Fulmer cheekpiece, will have the same effect as the traditional Eggbutt in so much as, it will prevent pinching on the sides of the mouth, however the extended pins above and below the bit, firstly prevent the bit being pulled through the mouth and secondly have the effect of guiding the horses head which is great for schooling and training purposes.

All our bits are made from blue sweet iron, because it:

  • oxidises easily
  • encourages salivation
  • helps bit acceptance
  • is warm and sweet

Please note the blue will fade with use.

BC45-Full-Cheek

BC45 (Dressage Legal)

The Control Plate is set at 45° to follow the contour of the horses tongue. Consequently, a horse who uses his tongue as a means of pushing against the bit and therefore taking control, will draw back and tuck his chin in, coming back to a better point of control.

This BC45 Full Cheek has been certified Dressage Legal

Blue-Full-Cheek_med1

Bomber Blue

The Bomber Blue is a unique bit which produces amazing results for the majority of horses.

The mouthpiece is ported to give tongue relief.

The material used allows the bit to remain light and it encourages salivation.  It is particularly well suited to horses that object to metal mouth pieces.

Buster-Roller-Full-Cheek

Buster Roller (Dressage Legal)

The Buster Roller link in the middle is shortened to 40mm which increases bar and tongue pressure making the bit sharper than conventional link bits. The increased pressure on the bar will lift the head and the roller will increase pressure on the tongue bringing the chin in.

Best suited for a horse with a low head carriage and which leans on the bit.

Cherry-Roller-Full-Cheek

Cherry Roller

The Cherry Rollers roll in the horses mouth giving him something to play with and reducing the likelihood of the bit being held in the horse’s teeth. They are constructed tightly so there is no chance of pinching. When pulling on the reins, the rollers allow the bit to move along the bars of the horse’s jaws as opposed to rubbing.

Very useful for horses that:

  • Lose sensitivity over time
  • Lose concentration
  • Cross their jaws

Elliptical-Full-Cheek

Elliptical Roller (Dressage Legal)

The Elliptical is a double jointed bit, with a lozenge in the middle.

The Elliptical link in the centre is 38mm which is slightly smaller than the standard Elliptical link. This takes some of the pressure off the tongue and places it on the bars encouraging the horse to lift his head, while the lozenge encourages the horse to come towards the vertical.

Half-Tw.Barrie-Full-Cheek

Barry 1/2 and 1/2

The Barrie Reversible is a severe bit due to the centre links of the two pieces being offset by 20mm giving it a double nutcracker action, which creates more tongue and bar pressure.

It is a versatile bit that can be flipped and used either way. The Round Twist providing a harder bit and the Smooth creating a more forgiving and softer bit.

Great bit for the experienced rider and strong older horses.

HT-Full-Cheek

Happy Tongue

The Happy Tongue is a solid mouth piece. It is curved and ported to give tongue relief. The Happy Tongue would be a good place to start if your horse is:

  • Shaking its head
  • Sticking its tongue out
  • Sucking its tongue back and as a result making an intermittent coughing noise
  • Trying to put its tongue over the bit
  • Going behind the bit to avoid the contact
  • Snatching the reins forward and down

The rider will know immediately if this is the correct bit, as a horse with a sensitive tongue will finally begin to work into, and accept the contact. Changing the cheekpieces would then allow the rider to adjust the level of control.

Lock-Up-Full-Cheek

Snaffle (Dressage Legal)

Our Snaffle is a popular bit due to the curved mouthpiece which distributes pressure more evenly over tongue and bars. With the offset centre link it will reduce the nutcraker action and pressure points on the tongue.

This Snaffle Full Cheek has been certified Dressage Legal

McHardy-Full-Cheek

McHardy

A horse shaking its head when bit pressure is applied or its tongue trying to escape the bit are classic signs the horse has a sensitive tongue. With this in mind the McHardy was created, it has a medium port creating space for the tongue relieving pressure.

The Buster Roller in the middle increases bar pressure and as a result lifting the horse’s head and giving more control.

Snaffle-Full-Cheek

Lock Up

The Lock Up snaffle removes the nut cracker action of the conventional snaffle, meaning it will bear less pressure on the horse’s bars. The Lock Up is therefore a softer option, than a conventional snaffle, although it still applies tongue and bar pressure when the reins are taken up.

Spinner-Full-Cheek

Spinner

The Spinner sits on top of the horses tongue and prevents the horse putting its tongue over the bit.

Tw.-Buster-Roller-Full-Cheek

Round Twisted Buster Roller

The Buster Roller link in the middle is shortened to 40mm which increases bar and tongue pressure making the bit sharper than conventional link bits. The increased pressure on the bar will lift the head and the roller will increase pressure on the tongue bringing the chin in. Best suited for a horse with a low head carriage and which leans on the bit.

The Round Twist creates more pressure points on the bars making it a stronger bit.

TWISTED-SNAFFLE-FULL-CHEEK

Square Twisted Snaffle

Our Snaffle is a popular bit due to the curved mouthpiece which distributes pressure more evenly over tongue and bars. With the offset centre link it will reduce nutcraker action and pressure points on the tongue.

The Square Twist will create more pressure points on the mouthpiece which will make it stronger than the Round Twist and Smooth.

Waterford-Full-Cheek

Waterford

The Waterford bit has many smooth flexible bumps or bubbles, which spreads the pressure over many points making it a light mouthpiece. The greater flexibility discourages a horse from leaning on it.

The Waterford bit is a good choice for a horse that leans, it also promotes mouthing and salivation. The Waterford is usually worn ¼” – ½” longer than your traditional mouthpiece in order to curl around the lips and maximise the effect.

Twisted Mullen Full Cheek

Square Twisted Mullen

The Mullen is a strong bit which creates direct pressure on the tongue which will in turn create direct pressure on the bars. Used for a strong older horse and will also bring the head down.

The Sqaure Twist will create more pressure points on the mouthpiece which will make it stronger than the twisted wire and round bar.
